Strengthening Coordination for Better Health Emergency Preparedness in Albania: The 6th SOLIDAR Steering Committee Meeting

The 6th Steering Committee Meeting of the SOLIDAR project held on 1 July 2026 at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare brought together representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Embassy of Switzerland in Albania, national health institutions, key stakeholders, and the SOLIDAR implementation team. The meeting provided an opportunity to review progress to date, discuss emerging priorities, and agree on the next phase of project implementation.

During the meeting, the SOLIDAR implementation team presented achievements across the project’s three outcomes. These included progress on field epidemiology capacity building; training and emergency response planning for healthcare personnel; and continued support to civil society organisations and Community Resilience Networks.

A key discussion concerned the online training platform for healthcare professionals and how it can be sustained after SOLIDAR ends. Participants discussed institutional ownership, technical infrastructure, accreditation and the need for coordination between institutions.

Strategic priorities also included the Primary Health Care Action Plan 2026–2030, finalisation of the CME Action Plan, and development of Emergency Response Plans at local level.

The Steering Committee continues to serve as an important platform for dialogue and joint decision-making. It supports stronger coordination across the health sector and helps ensure that SOLIDAR activities remain aligned with national priorities and institutional needs.

The SOLIDAR project – Together in health emergencies, is a project by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by GFA Consulting Group GmbH.
